Kia reliability: common Kia repairs

The MotorEasy Reliability Index measures the dependability of a car, as an average of the frequency and cost of repairs for over 1,200 models. It reveals some of the hidden costs of ownership, as well as the likelihood of something going wrong. Each model is given a reliability score ranging from -100 (red), for a high frequency and/or high cost of repair, through to +100 (green), where there is a low frequency and cost of repair.

The index also includes model-specific data on:

  • The typical repairs needed for each model, including the percentage of claims for engine, gearbox, electrical system, suspension, braking system and fuel system repairs
  • Common repairs you would be covered for with a Kia warranty
  • The average cost for each of the above types of repairs

Kia Warranty FAQs

What does a Kia 7-year warranty cover?

A Kia 7-year warranty. In Kia corporate-speak:

  • “Kia warrants a new car to be free of defects in material or workmanship”

You can read this as being similar to other warranties in that Kia will ‘cover the costs of repairing or replacing the factory-fitted mechanical & electrical components of your vehicle that have suffered a sudden failure during the period of cover.’

While a 7-year unlimited mileage warranty sounds simple enough. There are a few things you DO need to know:

  • Kia covers the components of a new car for unlimited mileage for up to 36 months
  • Between 37 & 84 months you’re covered up to 100,000 miles
  • Original audio & navigation units are covered for 36 months or 60,000 miles

A MotorEasy Kia warranty covers all the same things as a Kia extended warranty but with the addition of the following benefits:

  • Wear and tear cover (not covered by a Kia 7-year warranty)
  • Coverage up to 120,000 miles
  • Overheating failiures
  • Air conditioning issues

Can I get a Kia warranty on a new car?

Kia will provide you with a 7-year warranty on any new car you buy from them. This is offered across the entire range of their cars in the UK, so whichever model you buy, you’ll get 7 years of warranty coverage.

If you’d like to arrange cover for when your manufacturer warranty runs out you can get a Kia extended warranty quote.

What are the Kia warranty service requirements?

You still have to follow the scheduled servicing requirements as laid down in your handbook. Kia are very honest though that, while they would prefer you to use a Kia main dealer or Authorised repairer. You don’t have to in order for your warranty to be valid.

We’ve saved you having to visit the Kia website by copying the information here:

“...provided servicing and non-warranty repairs are carried out properly using genuine Kia parts or parts of equivalent quality you can use an independent repairer without affecting your vehicle warranty”

However, Kia also stipulates that your Kia must be inspected by a Kia dealer or authorised repairer every 12/24 months. The dealer may charge for this service.

How long are Kias under warranty?

If you purchased your car new from a Kia dealership - your car is covered by a 7-year unlimited mileage new car warranty.
Unlimited mileage does have some restrictions though.

  • Years 1 - 3 unlimited mileage
  • Years 3 - 7 100,000 miles

If your car is going to do over 100,000 miles, or your Kia warranty is going to expire MotorEasy can provide you with extended Kia warranty cover as long as your car has fewer than 120,000 miles on the clock.

You’ll not only get the peace of mind that comes with our extensive warranty cover but also these additional benefits that will make your life easier:
