Jaguar Car Warranty
Jaguar sells two levels of extended cover, and the cheaper one carries a limit most owners do not notice until they claim. Jaguar Select caps any individual claim at £3,000 including VAT.
Set that against our own repair data. The average XJ engine repair is £3,634.91. The average F-PACE gearbox repair is £3,245.22. Both are above the cap before anyone discusses labour rates or parts availability.
That is not an argument against Jaguar's cover. Its full Extended Warranty is a strong product. It is an argument for reading which of the two you have been quoted, and this page sets out the difference, what our claims data says goes wrong across ten Jaguar models, and where we fit.
Why do I need a Jaguar car warranty?
Two things stand out in our Reliability Index, and neither is the one people expect.
Engine work is the dominant claim on the modern range, and it is expensive. Engine repairs account for 39.81% of all F-PACE claims at £2,357.20 each, 38.75% of X-TYPE claims, and 38.54% of XE claims at £1,919.31. The XJ is the outlier on cost at £3,634.91 across 28.67% of claims, which is how it ends up the lowest-scoring Jaguar in our index at 1.9.
The I-PACE is a completely different car in the data, and its problem is electrical. Electrical faults make up 58.33% of every I-PACE claim, at an average of £1,520.45. To put that in perspective, the next highest average electrical repair cost anywhere in the Jaguar range is £478.39 on the XF. Nearly six in ten I-PACE claims are electrical, and they cost three times what an electrical fault costs on any other Jaguar.
That matters for anyone looking at Select cover on an I-PACE, because the cheaper tier covers named components rather than most components, and it carries no consequential failure cover at all.
The range splits by generation rather than by size. The XK scores 8.4 and the E-PACE 7.4, while the XJ sits at 1.9, the F-PACE at 2.2 and the XE at 3.3. The newer, more complex cars score worst, which is the opposite of what the badge history suggests.
Jaguar Extended Warranty and Jaguar Select: the difference
Jaguar Extended Warranty covers most factory-fitted mechanical and electrical components for 12 months, includes consequential failure cover, unlimited mileage and claims, MOT Test Insurance up to £750, car hire for up to seven days, and cover across the UK and Europe.
Jaguar Select covers named components only for 12 months, is limited to 25,000 miles from the date the policy starts, caps each individual claim at £3,000 including VAT, and does not include consequential failure cover. It retains the MOT insurance and car hire.
If you are renewing and have been offered a choice, the £3,000 ceiling is the number to weigh against your model's figures above.

Which models we cover. The F-PACE, E-PACE, I-PACE, F-TYPE, XE, XF and XJ, plus earlier models still on the road in numbers including the XK, S-TYPE and X-TYPE.
A word about timing. Jaguar has paused new car sales in the UK while it repositions, so the cars on the road now are the cars that will be on the road for some time. There is no like-for-like replacement to trade into on most of the range, which changes the arithmetic on keeping one properly covered rather than moving it on.
Which plan suits a Jaguar. Plan A is our most extensive, with B and C covering narrower component lists. Because Jaguar's exposure sits in high-value engine, gearbox and, on the I-PACE, electrical components, it is worth checking those specific entries on each plan's component schedule rather than assuming. That is a judgement from our claims data, not a rule.
Lite plans cost less and are built around breakdown and recovery scenarios rather than every listed component. Read that against the I-PACE data in particular, where electrical faults dominate and frequently leave the car undriveable.
Compare Plan A, Plan B, Plan C and Lite.
Jaguar reliability: common Jaguar repairs
The MotorEasy Reliability Index measures the dependability of a car, as an average of the frequency and cost of repairs for over 1,200 models. It reveals some of the hidden costs of ownership, as well as the likelihood of something going wrong. Each model is given a reliability score ranging from -100 (red), for a high frequency and/or high cost of repair, through to +100 (green), where there is a low frequency and cost of repair.
Our index also dives into model-specific insights, including:
- Common repairs needed (for example engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes, electrical, and fuel systems)
- Common repairs covered under a Jaguar warranty
- Average repair costs for each type of issue

One timing point worth money. If you extend while still inside the three-year manufacturer warranty, Jaguar has offered a free inspection worth up to £250. Leave it until after expiry and a multi-point inspection may be required at your cost. That alone can shift which route is cheaper.
Neither provider publishes a rate card, so the only honest comparison is two live quotes for your registration.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is the maximum Jaguar Select will pay on any single claim, including VAT. You can make unlimited claims up to the purchase price of the vehicle, but no individual repair is covered beyond £3,000. Our index puts the average XJ engine repair at £3,634.91 and the average F-PACE gearbox repair at £3,245.22, so on those models a single major failure can exceed the ceiling on its own.
Select is cheaper and keeps the MOT insurance and car hire, but it covers named components only, caps claims at £3,000, excludes consequential failure cover, and limits you to 25,000 miles from the policy start. The full Extended Warranty has none of those restrictions. If your Jaguar is one of the higher-cost models in our index, or an I-PACE, the gap between the two is wider than the price difference suggests.
The risk profile certainly is. Electrical faults account for 58.33% of all I-PACE claims in our index, at an average of £1,520.45, which is roughly three times the electrical repair cost on any other Jaguar. The high-voltage battery is covered separately and for longer by Jaguar itself, so extended cover protects the drive units, power electronics and the rest of the car. See our electric and hybrid warranty options, and confirm your remaining battery terms with a retailer using your VIN.
Three years from first registration with unlimited mileage on a new Jaguar. After that you are into extended cover, either from Jaguar or from a provider like us. Jaguar's own extended options run 12 months at a time and stop being available at 10 years or 100,000 miles. Ours run 12, 24 or 36 months or rolling monthly, up to 13 years and 130,000 miles.
Jaguar's full Extended Warranty includes consequential failure cover. Jaguar Select does not. MotorEasy will cover consequential damage up to our own discretion, please check your policy documents for full terms. This is the distinction most worth checking on a quote, because a covered part failing and taking another component with it is exactly how a moderate repair becomes a large one.
Not from Jaguar. Its extended cover stops at 10 years or 100,000 miles. We cover Jaguars up to 13 years and 130,000 miles, so there is a band where we can help and the manufacturer cannot. Beyond those limits we cannot cover it either.
With us, yes, provided the repair is authorised before work starts. You can use any garage in our network of over 10,000 or nominate your own. Jaguar's own cover routes repairs through Jaguar Authorised Repairers using genuine parts.
Find the date of first registration on your V5C or free via the DVLA vehicle enquiry service, then count three years. A Jaguar retailer can confirm the full position from your VIN, including anything extended by a previous owner and any remaining battery cover on an I-PACE.
Log in to your MotorEasy account, go to 'My Purchased Products' and click 'Report a fault', as soon as something feels wrong. We book the diagnosis and cover the fee where the fault is covered, our claims team checks it against your plan and authorises the work, then we pay the garage directly. Have your registration, plan number and last two service invoices ready, and do not authorise repairs before we approve them.
Usually because the failed component is not listed on your plan, or because service history requirements were not met. Jaguar's own terms note that the warranty may not apply if manufacturer service schedules have not been followed, and pre-existing faults are excluded on every policy including theirs. Keep the invoices, since we ask for the last two.
Depends on the model, and our data gives you a way to judge rather than guess. On an XJ, F-PACE or XE, where engine repairs average between £1,900 and £3,600 and account for close to 40% of claims on two of them, a single covered repair can exceed a year of cover. On an XK at 8.4 or an E-PACE at 7.4 the probability is lower and the calculation is closer. Set the premium against your own model's figures.
Routine servicing and maintenance, wear items, accident and negligence damage, unauthorised modifications, pre-existing faults, and problems worsened by a missed service or ignored warning light. Full detail on our exclusions page or in your policy documents.
