Peugeot Warranty & Extended Car Warranty

Look at where Peugeot owners actually spend money on repairs and one system stands out. Engine work is the single most claimed-for repair on nine of the seventeen Peugeot models in the MotorEasy Reliability Index, and sits in the top three on thirteen of them.

What has changed is the bill. An engine repair on a 206 averages £221.14. On a 208 it averages £1,115.18, and on a 508 it averages £2,047.02. The likelihood of needing one has barely moved. The cost has.

A Peugeot warranty from MotorEasy exists for that gap. Enter your registration to see your price, or call the team free on 0800 131 0001.

Why do I need a Peugeot extended warranty?

Peugeot builds cars that are cheap to run and, in the smaller sizes, genuinely cheap to fix. The 108 scores 9.1 in our Reliability Index and the 107 scores 8.9, putting them among the most dependable cars we track anywhere. If you run one of those, the case for cover is a modest one and we would rather say so. The picture changes as the cars get bigger and newer.

Engines are where Peugeot claims concentrate

Engine work accounts for 54.76% of all claims on the Expert, 45.71% on the Boxer, 39.48% on the 207, 35.14% on the 206, 33.76% on the 5008, 32.86% on the 208, 32.84% on the 308 and 30.19% on the 307. Very few manufacturers show a single system dominating this consistently across a range this wide. And engine repair costs have climbed steeply across the generations.

The ladder runs almost exactly in age order:

ModelAverage engine repairShare of that model's claims
107£484.76%
206£221.1435.14%
407£272.539.09%
207£544.4539.48%
Bipper£628.3824.14%
Partner£633.3529.17%
308£646.9832.84%
307£720.6530.19%
2008£876.7413.93%
3008£1038.9424.18%
208£1115.1832.86%
5008£1177.5933.76%
RCZ£1416.1022.39%
Expert£1481.1554.76%
508£2047.0218.42%
Boxer£2063.4045.71%

A 206 owner facing a one-in-three chance of an engine claim is looking at a couple of hundred pounds. A 208 owner facing almost identical odds is looking at over a thousand.

The commercial models sit at the bottom

The Boxer scores 2.5, the Bipper 3.4 and the Expert 4.7. All three pair high engine claim rates with expensive repairs, and the Bipper adds a £1,671.24 average gearbox bill on 20.69% of claims, an unusually high frequency for a gearbox. The 508 is the lowest-scoring passenger car at 4.8, with the most expensive engine and gearbox repairs of any Peugeot car we track.

Three models break the pattern

The 407 scores a healthy 8.2 overall, but gearbox work makes up 36.36% of its claims, the highest gearbox claim rate of any Peugeot in the index. The Partner's most claimed-for system is not the engine but the fuel system, at 31.25% and an average of £530.70. And the RCZ's is suspension, at 25.37%.

One honest note on the data: the 108's table carries no engine or gearbox rows at all, and its claims are dominated by braking work at 57.14%. That reflects what has been claimed for, not proof that a 108 engine cannot fail.

You can look up any individual model on our Peugeot Index.

How do you get a Peugeot warranty quote?

Enter your registration at the top of this page and a price appears on screen. If you would rather talk it through first, call 0800 131 0001.

Which we cover:

We quote on the current UK range, which runs from the 208 and e-208 through the 2008 and e-2008, the 308, e-308 and 308 SW, the 408, and the 3008, e-3008, 5008 and e-5008, alongside the Rifter and Traveller. We also cover the older cars most people reading this are running: the 107, 108, 206, 207, 307, 407, 508 and RCZ.

If you run a Peugeot Partner, Expert, Boxer or Bipper, these go through our van warranties rather than a car plan. Given where those models sit in our reliability data, it is worth getting a price.

What we look at when we quote:

  • Age and mileage
  • Service History
  • Condition

Choosing between Plan A, B and C

Plan A is our most comprehensive cover, aimed at cars from around three years old. Plan B is built for cars from around five years old. Plan C is essential cover for cars of roughly ten years and over.

For most makes the engine is the thing to check. For Peugeot it is not the deciding factor, because all three plans list engines and gearboxes among their covered components. The decision sits with everything else. Plan B covers air conditioning, suspension and the wider electrical system; Plan C’s published list does not. That matters more for a 508 or 3008, where electrical and fuel system claims run alongside the engine ones, than it does for a 206 where engine and gearbox are most of the story.

Whether a Lite plan makes sense

Lite plans cost less because they only pay out where the failure stops the car at the roadside and it has to be recovered.

Whether that suits you depends on which Peugeot you have. On a 107 or a 108, where the index shows low-cost claims and a strong score, a Lite plan is a reasonable way to insure against the one thing you cannot absorb. On a 208, 3008 or 5008, it is a weaker fit, because the expensive fault on those cars is the engine and engine problems often announce themselves as a warning light, a misfire or oil consumption long before the car stops moving. By the time you need recovery, the damage may be done.

If your Peugeot has a 1.0 or 1.2 PureTech petrol engine

This affects a lot of the cars on this page, so it is worth setting out plainly.

Earlier versions of Stellantis’s 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech petrol engines used a timing belt that runs in oil. On some cars the belt degraded early and shed material into the oil system, which can cause damage well beyond the belt itself. Affected Peugeots include the 108 (2014 to 2022), 208 (2012 on), 2008 (2013 on), 308 (2013 on), 3008 (2016 to 2024) and 5008 (2017 to 2024). Stellantis moved to a timing chain on the third-generation 1.2 engine from 2023.

This is a manufacturer issue, and the manufacturer route is the right one. Stellantis has published an extended warranty position covering 100% of parts and labour on previous-generation PureTech engines for up to 10 years or 112,000 miles, subject to conditions, and runs a compensation portal at stellantis-support.com for owners who paid out of pocket for repairs relating to excessive oil consumption or premature timing belt degradation between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2024. The conditions matter: servicing must have followed the manufacturer’s maintenance plan, and diagnosis and repair must have gone through the authorised network.

What this means for an extended warranty

No warranty, ours or anyone else’s, is designed to pick up a fault the manufacturer has already acknowledged and is already covering. If you have a PureTech wet belt failure, go to Stellantis first. A MotorEasy warranty is for everything else: the gearbox, the electrical system, the fuel system, the air conditioning, and engine faults unrelated to the belt.

If you are buying a used PureTech Peugeot, check that any relevant work has been done and that the service history is complete and on the correct oil specification. Both will matter to any future claim.

Separately, Stellantis is currently recalling around 44,000 UK vehicles built between 2023 and 2026 across several of its brands, over clearance between the petrol particulate filter pipe and the 48V belt starter generator. If your Peugeot falls in that age range, check whether it is affected and get any recall work completed. Outstanding recall work can affect a warranty claim.

What happens if something goes wrong

Report it early. That is the single thing that most affects how a Peugeot claim goes, because damage made worse by continued driving may not be covered, and on a Peugeot engine the window between a warning light and something serious can be short.

Logging a fault takes a couple of minutes. Sign in to your MotorEasy account, find the car under My Purchased Products, and click Report a fault. You can call us on 0800 131 0001 instead if you would rather speak to someone.

Peugeot reliability: common Peugeot repairs

The MotorEasy Reliability Index measures the dependability of a car, as an average of the frequency and cost of repairs for over 1,200 models. It reveals some of the hidden costs of ownership, as well as the likelihood of something going wrong.

Each model is assigned a reliability score on a scale from -100 to +100. A score closer to -100 (red) indicates frequent and/or costly repairs, while a score near +100 (green) reflects minimal repair needs and lower costs.

In addition to the reliability score, our index provides detailed, model-specific insights, including:

  • The typical repairs needed for each model, including the percentage of claims for engine, gearbox, electrical system, suspension, braking system and fuel system repairs
  • Common repairs you would be covered for with a Peugeot warranty
  • The average cost of each type of repair

Peugeot Warranty FAQs

What is a Peugeot warranty?

A new Peugeot comes with a three-year manufacturer warranty. The mileage terms are often misreported: cover is unlimited mileage for the first two years, and limited to 60,000 miles in the third year, or 100,000 miles in the third year on commercial vehicles. Electric and hybrid Peugeots also carry a separate eight-year warranty on the traction battery. To keep the warranty valid you need to follow Peugeot’s servicing schedule.

What does a Peugeot Warranty cover?

A Peugeot warranty direct from Peugeot covers mechanical and electrical failure, meaning a component that stops working to the manufacturer’s specification. It excludes wear and tear, normal ageing and negligence, and all claims are subject to the terms of the policy. Peugeot recommends using an authorised repairer, though servicing at any VAT-registered garage using approved parts should not invalidate cover.

Is my Peugeot still under warranty?

Work back from the registration date on your V5C. Under three years old means the manufacturer warranty is likely still live, subject to the mileage terms above. Any Peugeot retailer can confirm it from the VIN, and if you bought the car used the seller should be able to tell you whether a Renewal, Approved Used or Peugeot Care warranty was in place. If you already have cover with us, your plan details and start date are in your MotorEasy account under My Purchased Products.

How long is a Peugeot extended warranty?

Peugeot’s Renewal Warranty is sold as an annual policy or a monthly renewing policy, so it extends in twelve-month blocks rather than one fixed term. It remains renewable while the car is under 100,000 miles and will be under ten years old when the policy expires. A MotorEasy warranty is available in 12, 24 or 36-month terms, or monthly, up to 120,000 miles.

How do I get a Peugeot warranty extension?

If your Peugeot is under three years old and under 60,000 miles, you can buy a Renewal Warranty from Peugeot directly. If you already hold Peugeot cover, they will normally contact you before it expires with a renewal invitation. If neither applies, or you want a longer term or a higher mileage limit, enter your registration on this page for a MotorEasy Peugeot warranty quote.

How much is a Peugeot extended warranty?

Peugeot does not publish a standard price. It is quoted per car by a Peugeot retailer and varies with age, mileage and model. MotorEasy pricing is also quoted per car, and you can see yours on screen by entering your registration.

What does a Peugeot warranty from MotorEasy cover?

Parts, labour and diagnostics on covered components, plus consequential damage caused by a covered fault. We also cover overheating failures, air conditioning faults, and faults discovered during a service or MOT rather than only at breakdown. Cover extends to 120,000 miles, above Peugeot’s 100,000-mile ceiling. The exact component list depends on your plan and is set out in your policy document.

What does an extended Peugeot warranty not cover?

Routine servicing and maintenance, accident or negligence damage, modifications not approved by Peugeot, and problems caused by missed services or ignored warning lights. Wear and tear is treated differently across plans. Car hire is not included, though we pay up to £150 towards recovery on a covered claim. Our full exclusions breakdown has the detail.

What happens if my Peugeot claim is turned down?

We tell you why. Claims are usually declined for one of two reasons: the failed part is not listed on your plan, or the service history does not meet the requirements. On a PureTech engine there is a third possibility, which is that the fault falls under Stellantis’s own extended warranty rather than ours, in which case we will point you there. If you disagree with a decision, you can raise it through the messaging facility in your MotorEasy account.

What’s the difference between a Peugeot new car warranty, extended warranty and approved used warranty?

The new car warranty is Peugeot’s factory cover, running three years with unlimited mileage for the first two. The Renewal Warranty extends that in annual blocks, and can only be started while the car is under three years old and under 60,000 miles. The Spoticar approved used warranty is a separate product attached to a certified pre-owned car at the point of sale. Peugeot Care is a fourth thing again, and applies only to electric models serviced within the Peugeot network.
