SEAT Reliability
SEAT has built a solid reputation for quality engineering and build quality in recent years, in fact it’s standing as one of Europe’s most popular brands has been on the rise ever since Volkswagen bought the company back in the 80s. Like Skoda, SEAT has benefitted considerably from German input, even if the brand retains a hint of Spanish flair.
Generally speaking, SEAT does well in reliability surveys without troubling the top Japanese manufacturers. This year’s What Car reliability survey ranked SEAT in 10th – a sold placing. Our own study, which analysed 47,000 warranty policies over a two-and half-year period, was less positive however. SEAT placed 24th out of 33 manufacturers. Relatively high repair cost – which the MotorEasy survey factored in – didn’t help SEATs cause.

How reliable are SEAT’s top models?
Ibiza
The Ibiza is a trusty veteran that’s generally attracted praise for its reliability. There was a widely held impression that the previous (4th) generation didn’t age particularly well however, and survey feedback seems to reflect that. It scores quite poorly in the Reliability Index with surprisingly high average repair costs of £549.24.
Leon
The second-generation SEAT Leon (2005-12) has similarly reliability issues to the Ibiza rating 166.00 in the Reliability Index, which is well below average, and averaging £551.13 per repair, which is a lot. The Leon has fared far better elsewhere however, so it’s likely that the latest iteration is proving more dependable.
