Kia Reliability

South Korean manufacturer Kia has steadily built its reputation in recent years and, with little fanfare, now commands a pretty impressive market share in the UK. A big part of the brand’s emergence has been a burgeoning reputation for solid build quality and reliability. Kia is now a brand motorists feel they can trust.

Recent reliability surveys certainly back this impression up. The 2019 Driver Power survey placed Kia in third place, suggesting that Kia owners are by and large a very happy bunch. Our own recent reliability survey, which analysed 47,000 warranty policies over a two and half year period, was slightly less impressive, ranking Kia 10th out of 33 car manufacturers.

How reliable are Kia’s top models?

Picanto

Kia’s nippy little city car has been a big part of the brand’s success in recent years. Its impressive build quality belies its affordability and owner feedback is invariably very enthusiastic. It’s also very reliable, ranking 13th in the Reliability Index with an impressively low score of 18.00, making it one of the most dependable cars on the market.

Rio

The Rio hatchback is another solid bet when it comes to reliability, scoring well in the Reliability Index and What Car’s survey. It’s also a good example of Kia’s growing reputation, have emerged to an underwhelming reception in the early 00s, when it’s first iteration was launched. The third iteration (launched in 2011) has proved far more successful.
